Non Formal Education Week

Hello everyone

This is a very special week in Romania. In all the schools across the country, teachers are using methods of non-formal education. As the name suggests this method uses other means of teaching. Such as movies, art activities, sports, language classes but in a non theoretical way, using games and team building technics. We try to be creative and innovative in our work, so that the children still learn but in a different, funny way and experience the topics first hand.

In our daily work we usually use this kind of activities to teach the kids in our schools.

Even the fact that we are all from different countries is a good non formal education opportunity for the children to learn about other cultures and develop their views on the world.

This week we got invitation from many schools, asking if we could be there and do some activities with the students. We spent some time in School Take Ionescu, School nr 4, Gorano and Vladesti.

Roma International Day

Hello everyone

On the 8th of April, all around the world is celebrated the International Day of the Roma Community. Romania as it's known has a large Roma population, so this is a very important day in all the country. Ramnicu Valcea was no exception.

In this day all the Roma community came to the streets to do a parade and show to the public some of their tradition, like costumes and dances. 

Since this such an important community in this country, we were very happy to be part of this commemoration. We followed the parade and were even invited to dance among the community. 

It was a really eye opening experience to learn that they are such welcoming people. Even with all the stigma that is known about them.

They may have some strange and difficult traditions to accept but in the end they are people just like everyone else that deserve respect and understanding.

This was a different day for all the volunteers. 

A big thank you to all the Roma Community for receiving us so well.

Multicultural Comenius Project DEPTH Conference

Hello everyone

In the week from 31st of March to 05th of April, in Ramnicu Valcea the Multicultural Comenius project prepared a working visit to Romania. The objectives of this project are to raise the level of awareness with regards to democracy within schools, among teachers, children and parents respectively. To reach comprehension and practice in what concerns values in defining the Human species: Empathy, Tact, Peace and Happiness.

On the 04th of April a special conference took place in the Economic High School in Rm.Valcea, to present the partners a presentation about some tradition in Romania and of this region.

In this conference were partners from Turkey, Portugal, Greece, Lithuania, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary and the host Romania.

One of the students presented us with this magnificent performance of a traditional Romanian song.

Activities in the school - part 2

Hello everyone

As you all know by now, we have all been working in some of the schools in Ramnicu Valcea. 
This was a special week for school nr 4. It was the first time that we, volunteers went to the school alone.

Usually we always have someone from the association with us, but this week was not the case.

We tried to prepare for this week a little bit more than usual. Since we were going to be alone, everything had to be organized and all activities planed.

Our English class was a success. Congrats to all of you. You did very well.

The next day it was time to let the imagination fly. They had to complete the story that we gave them. And it was a great joy to see that there is a lot of artistic talent in the classes.

We even had a music day. German created some lyrics and a melody to teach our kids in the school, and it was a huge success.

We thank all the children and teachers that helped us during this week. It was a pleasure to work with all of you.
